Provisional Insurance For Young Drivers

Provisional Insurance For Young Drivers

Insurance Tips For Young Drivers

New drivers think they have it made. They no longer have to depend on someone else to take them places. They are finally free to drive the roads by themselves. They think about their new car that they are planning on buying and on being able to drive their friends around town. Then they check out the prices of new drivers car insurance and realise they may not be able to drive their own car. It can be just as bad before that stage, when you need to get provisional licence insurance cover.

Car insurance companies charge a high premium for provisional and young drivers. In some cases the insurance can appear to be unattainable for many young drivers. Although they now have the freedom to drive on their own and to own their own car, they may be forced to drive their parent’s car for a while. The insurance on the family car will increase but it will not be as bad as if the new driver was the primary on the car.

learner drivers are inexperienced. They make a lot of mistakes that can cause a serious accident. In many cases the young driver thinks that they are a better driver than what they really are. They may think they are skilled enough to handle high speeds or to take unnecessary chances. Unfortunately they are not skilled enough for this. More young people die on the roadways than by any other cause. It is because of this that the insurance companies make the premiums so high. There are some insurance companies who do not want the business. To them it is not worth the high risk they take with provisional and young drivers. These companies will set their prices so high that no one can afford to pay them. Sometimes the premiums will be worth more than the car that is being insured many times over.

What can you do when you are looking for affordable
insurance for a young driver? They can take a safe drivers course that will teach them how to drive under different circumstances. These courses will teach a new driver how to drive defensively. Young drivers do not always realise they must watch out for the other people on the road. A safety course in driving can teach them how to react if a car pulls out in front of them or a car swerves into their lane. It will teach them how to prevent an accident from happening. Car insurance companies will often offer a nice discount to new drivers who take one of these driving courses. This can lower the high premium significantly.

A young or provisional driver must obey the laws of the road. By keeping their driving record clean it will reflect that they are a safe driver. Insurance companies are apt to lower the premiums for safe drivers no matter what their age. Another way to lower premiums is to hold off on buying that new car for a while. Instead drive the family car to get the needed experience and proof that you are a safe driver. As long as you are a named driver on someone else’s insurance, you can earn points on safe driving. Insurance companies will look at your record and if there have been no violations or claims on the insurance you will be able to get a better rate on your car insurance.
